Hi John,

Wow, what a wonderful response and great story to hear! Over the weekend, the good memories only served as painful reminders of the void that is left behind with his absence.

Today, those memories are just beginning to serve more as that detour to the heartache of the ending, as you so elegantly put it.

I remember Ernie! Dandy was a real sweetie. Even in my very short experience, I thought she was a great dog. I'm pretty sure that my Beasley will leave that same kind of "twinge" with me 20 or 30 years down the road as well.

Enjoy Little Pepper and cherish all the moments, even the irritating ones. These moments that we experience rarely seem special while we are in them, but once we're on the outside looking in, we realize how truly priceless they really are.

Thanks for being there my friend!

Yes it is best to remember the good stuff. My first schnauzer Pepper (Big Pepper) would chase geckos off our wall. Sometimes, we would entice him to go outside by saying "go get geckos!" Memories such as that does not stop the tears, but the help the tears smile a bit. Later your memories will serve as a detour to the heartache of the ending.

We have Little Pepper now. Big was a regular, Little is a mini-schnauzer about 20 lbs. Get another cat, now! 'nuf said there.

Jack, you probably remember our Boston Terrier "Dandy." You called him Ernie Borgnine. So long ago, and even his absence causes a twinge. Like I said, the memories bad fade away, the good ones get stronger still. But the absence is an absence and will eventually cause only a small frown for a few seconds as the good floods in.

Jack,

Our thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. We hope the joy Baxter gave soon crowds out the sadness you are feeling now.

Thanks for sharing your story. Reading abouit Baxter brought both tears & laughter. It was easy to how he became a big part of your lives.

Sorry for your loss,

It is extremely sad when these things happen. I have to agree Michael that the good memories are their legacy, and through that, they live on with us always. :)

It is sad when a good friend passes like this. We have given away most of our pets over the years due to moving and complications around the new residences each time. We had to bury one of our dogs and it was so sad.

It is good to recall the great times you had with Baxter as that is what lives on in this world.

Regards, Michael.
