Gotta Love That CommentLuv!

by admin on May 21, 2008

Around the end of April I made a blog post referring to some cool wordpress plugins to add to your arsenal of useful stuff. One comment I had received was from Annie, who right away took advantage of the KeywordLuv plugin that I am using.

She later left a second comment recommending another great plug-in called CommentLuv. Being the type to try out new things that may be useful to me and beneficial to my readers, I decided to look into it. Thanks Annie! I’m glad I did…

CommentLuv benefits your readers by automatically inserting their last blog post title into their comment. This way, if you have a blog and you want to leave a comment, CommentLuv will scrape your last blog post and insert it into your comment. You can really benefit from useful keywords such as “internet business”.

Here’s an example of what my comment would look like on someone else’s blog using CommentLuv:

Jack Keifer on May 21st, 2008 at 3:41 pm

Hi Homer,

That’s a great story about your son Bart. Looks like he will be president someday!

-Jack

Jack’s last blog post..A Competition Free Internet Business

As you can see CommentLuv scraped the last blog post (in this example) from my web site which I added into the comment form. Now I have a great back link for “Internet Business” on Homer’s website, who just happens to have a PR 8.

Without CommentLuv I would only be back-linking for “Jack Keifer”. Not a very useful back-link. Sure, I could type “Internet Business” in the name field, but more than likely I would be flagged as a spammer and my comment would be deleted. Even though I left a useful comment, the blog owner may never look past the keyword stuffed name field.

CommentLuv is a great way to get back-links to your own blog with targeted keywords. To find other CommentLuv Blogs out there, you can Google using the phrase “Enable CommentLuv” + your target keyword. For example, if you wanted to find blogs related to internet marketing, you could Google for “Enable CommentLuv” + “Internet marketing”.

You will get back all the indexed CommentLuv blogs that are using CommentLuv and related to internet marketing. Now go leave some useful comments and get some nice relevant backlinks to your blog.

You can potentially generate a lot of extra traffic to your blog as well, because readers of other blogs will see your cool headline and click on it to see what you have to say.

CommentLuv is also a great way to get more people commenting on your own blog as well. Remember back when your blog was new? It probably took awhile before you got that first comment. You may not have had more than a handful of readers.

Blog posts with comments shows your visitors that you are creating interesting and useful content that people want to respond to. Comments also validate that you have a following and decent traffic which encourages others to come back and eventually contribute. This adds to the credibility of your blog.

A majority of readers rarely, if ever, comment. CommentLuv just may be a great way to encourage your readers to chime in and contribute to your blog. It’s a win-win for both the blogger and reader. Give it a try!

CommentLuv is a great little invention. It’s a nice way of rewarding people for commenting on your blog. I’m not familiar with KeywordLuv yet, so I’ll have to read your other post now :)

I’m new to blogging, but this seems like an excellent idea. It both encourages commenters (spammers can still be moderated) and also keeps commenters’ anchor text clean, and rewards them with an extra back link. thanks for this info.

These are both brilliant plug-ins, and they certainly should bring a boost in activity. People only have so much time to spend on blogs, and you can bet anyone with even a little SEO savvy is going to spend that time on sites that provide the most value.

Fully agree with you, commentLuv is a way to reward the commenters for the time they spend to write comments.

There is also another nice plugin which is top commentaters. It will display a lit of top commentaters with the numbers of comments left. This list evolves within the time depending on the number of comments left.

I think commentluv and keywordluv really are the way forward. I have used ot on a couple of my blogs and the response is great, not only can you build a community, you also get a lot of traffic as directories love these kinds of blogs listed.

So everyone really is a winner.

KeywordLuv and CommentLuv are my two favorite plugins. Like everyone else, I agree that it’s nice to get rewarded with a real link, in exchange for a real comment. I think that’s what blogging and sharing/commenting is all about.

I feel that this plugin encourages conversations to begin on posts especially if your blog is talking about saturated niches. Sure, I would guess that it also encourages a little more spam, but I think that the benefits outway the negatives.

Previously I didn’t understand what “comment luv” was, just after I became to realise what “do-follow” was. Yes, I’m still learning a lot everyday, and one very big benefit I see in Comment Luv ,is that you can get a link or two (or quite a few) from your last blog post. This should help with deep links for your blog, and help to rank your posts into Google.

Many people are worried to activate CommentLuv in their blog because of the spammers. They are worried if the spammers take advantage too much and their blog will be flooded with garbage comment. But for me, that is not a big deal. As the admin of the blog, we can always delete the comment that exploiting the advantage of the plugin. In the other hand, I always believe that anybody who knows the real benefit of the plugin will do always leave a useful comment in the blog that is using CommentLuv plugin because they want their link to be intact.

Thanks for sharing – having tried and implemented them,I think both commentluv and keywordluv are great for bloggers and commenters – Its also a great way to improve your brand too. The nofollow attribute still serves as an anchor to your site with no Search benefits.

Hi. I’m new to commentluv, but already am loving it. As a linking strategy it is fantastic. The key drawback is that as far as linking strategies is concerned, it is still quite time consuming. I would like to thiink that Brad Callen (SEO backlink extroadinaire) or someone would develop a desktop application to do extensive searches on specific commentluv criteria + keywords and build it into the seo elite platform.- just a suggestion (hint hint)

Reply

Simon July 14, 2009 at 4:20 am

Commentluv is a great plug however if the site owner has the nofollow tag on in the comments then it loses half of it’s value since the search engines will not follow it. I guess if people go through the comments section and click on the links I guess it’s okay.
I also like to reward sites that have commentluv and give them some ’sponsorluv’ as a means of thanks. So a couple of clickies are on the way
I enourage others to do the same.

fwisp July 25, 2009 at 6:35 pm

Very nice plug-in. Every blog should have this installed and enabled by default; it would allow much better traffic exchange between websites! And the developer should definitely consider expanding the compatibility to other CMS.

Agree commentluv is great – however, what is the benefit (or lack thereof) to setting comments to ‘no follow’?

Are blog owners afraid of draining off Google juice?

Reply

Mike October 24, 2009 at 11:55 am

I think CommentLuv is a great idea, but it is bordering on a waste of time. I used the procedure mentioned in the post and came upon this site. What I found was that although CommentLuv seems to be active, it has been set to nofollow. This has happened on about 90% of the sites I’ve checked (including this one).

I guess a lot of people don’t check and assume that they are getting a do follow. If you don’t have it, you can grab the Firefox SEO add-on that highlights nofollow links so you don’t have to check the actual code.
