Ion Propulsion Marketing

Play

ionCowWhen diving into the world of online marketing, especially for the first time, it’s natural to be excited at the prospect that this may be the ticket to a better life. An escape hatch to lead you out of your current state of self-imposed slavery.

I remember when I first dove into internet business, I wanted to hit that magic number of 10K a month on the very first month that I launched my business. Any why not? After all, the possibilities are endless, right?

There was just one minor catch. I had the drive, an idea, a plan, and some technical know-how, but I was missing one key ingredient. This was an ingredient which can’t be bought. Not really. That ingredient was ‘experience’.

In 2005, I was quite the green-horn, and I poked around blindly just like the rest of us. I chased all the opportunities which offered short-cuts. Sometimes I would get lucky and find info that was actually practical, and based on someone else’s real life experience, saving me some pitfalls along the way.

But when it all came down to it, I had to learn most of it by just doing. In the beginning, I crammed as much as I could into my projects to keep moving forward. At other times, I would just lose steam and felt that I was going nowhere, but I managed to press on.

As I analyzed things along the way, I realized that if I kept a steady forward motion everyday, no matter how small, it had a cumulative effect on my business. If I was stuck in some area, I would move in some other way while figuring my way out of it.

For example, I couldn’t get the hang of Adwords for a while back then. Despite getting pounded, I still kept moving in other areas. Baby steps every day.

Today, I was watching one of my favorite shows, The Universe. Yeah, I like all that geeky cool stuff. There was a segment about ion propulsion, and how this type of engine generates just about enough thrust to lift a piece of paper. Yet, in outer space where there is no friction, this constant stream of ions keeps the spacecraft accelerating faster and faster with time.

In time it achieves a mind boggling velocity. I couldn’t help thinking how this same philosophy applies to internet business. Applying a steady stream of forward motion every day in your business leads to the same effect.

Always keeping your focus forward in your business is just like that steady ion stream which gets you to the other side of the solar system in the most efficient manner.

The ion propulsion method is designed for the long term. Is your business? It’s good to be excited about the short term, but always remember that the longer you’re in the game, the more velocity you can build. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t feel that you’re moving quickly enough.

Slow and steady will compound its way up to ‘holy terminal velocity batman!’ Stick to this mindset, and you can’t lose.

Xingla Pro 4 Has Arrived

Xingla4-Cover smI have to admit, I’m pretty excited to announce that Xingla Pro version 4 has now been officially released!

It’s been a long time coming. Xingla Pro has been rewritten to be bigger and better than ever. It has a new look and new features as well.

Xingla Pro is now completely form based, which means that you no longer need to interact with an internal web browser to build your lists, and add categories.

Also, I was able to streamline the functions so that certain convenience features are automatic.

For example, in Xingla Pro 3 there was a “Find Inactives” button that you would press to see if your list was up-to-date. If not, then Xingla Pro would find the outdated carnivals and prompt you to delete them.

Now this whole process is automatic, every time you start Xingla Pro, or open a list.

Also, the Search Filter is integrated into the list area, instead of being only visible in a popup window as in the previous version.

Carnival submissions with the Auto Submit feature are now very accurate. Xingla Pro submits the carnivals at a slower pace (roughly the time it takes to refresh a web page, for each item), to ensure 100% accuracy.

Here is a quick run down of some of the new features!

Submission Logs - You can now keep track of all your carnival submissions in the submissions logs table. Submissions are listed by many categories including Submission date & time, permalink, list name, etc.

You have the option to export your log entries to a .CSV file as well.

The most recent submission is also noted in Xingla Pro’s taskbar showing the Date & time of the last submission, plus the list name that the post was submitted to. When you mouse over the information, you will see the permalink for that submission in the tool tip.

Carnival Details - Now there’s no reason to piss off a carnival host because your list wasn’t targeted enough. Simply double click an item and a complete description of the carnival is displayed in the tool tip as shown below:

tooltipDescription

Remarks Column - Sometimes a carnival may require some special information from the submitter that needs to go into the remarks field. You can now add a remarks entry to your list item so that it gets submitted every time.

Drag & Drop List Building - When you start Xingla Pro, a complete list of all the blog carnivals is generated from which you can build your lists from. Use the Search Filter to narrow down your results, select the relevant carnivals, and drag them over to the adjoining table.

When you are ready, you can save the items to a new list, or add them to your currently open list.

Auto-Checking of Inactive Carnivals - Every time you start Xingla Pro, or when you open a new list, your list will be automatically purged of any dead carnivals. Blog carnivals come and go for various reasons. The auto-checking feature will ensure that you never submit to an extinct carnival.

Automatic Login to blogcarnival.com - Xingla Pro now has an integrated login field for blogcarnival.com. By default, Xingla Pro will save your login info so that you will be auto-logged in every time you start Xingla Pro. You need to be logged into your free blogcarnival.com account to auto-submit.

Here is a screen shot of Xingla Pro:

Say Hello to AmazingCloaker 7

AmazingCloaker7-box sm

Well, I’ve been hard at work in my secret lab perfecting AmazingCloaker 7. Yes, I really do have a secret lab. I bought it from grandpa Munster just before he moved back to Transylvania back in ’98.

It took awhile to clean out the bat droppings, but I decided to leave the cobwebs in place for dramatic effect and inspiration.

After getting my hair smoked by tripping on one of grandpa Munster’s old test tubes, and falling into the jacob’s ladder which was still plugged in, I had this great idea… Why not take AmazingCloaker 6 to the next level?

One thing that I really wanted to do from the start was to improve the FTP feature and make it easy to use and feature rich. Unfortunately, Adobe Air was limiting what I could do with FTP, because it really doesn’t have that much going on in that department.

As a result, I decided to rewrite AmazingCloaker in good ol’ C++, a programing language where anything’s possible. For you Mac and Linux users, not to worry, AmazingCloaker 7 is also available for you as well!

The FTP feature now has an explore feature so that you can navigate around your website if you wish. This is especially handy if you have shared web hosting, and you want to locate your homepage folder when setting up your FTP list.

I have also added a button which allows you to automatically upload your acslideup folder. Previously, if you wanted to create a slide-up capture form for your website, you had to manually upload this folder by using another FTP client such as FileZilla.

AmazingCloaker is blazing fast. The Adobe Air version was a bit sluggish in certain areas, and that always annoyed me a little. The interface also has additional tabs for the Slideup creator and Article Cloaker, so that you can easily navigate directly to them if you desire.

Speaking of easy navigation, the “Saved Sessions” list is now in the same tab window as the Cloaking fields for easy access and reference.

The slideup creator has been optimized for better performance as well. Now when you select different graphics options, those changes are reflected instantly as you mouse over the selections. Also, you can see other changes (such as picture size or slide-out times) update just by pressing Enter after making your changes.

In fact, every aspect of the AmazingCloaker has been optimized for speed and smooth performance. This is the easiest to use version to date. Here is a screenshot of AmazingCloaker 7:

If you want to get a detailed picture of what AmazingCloaker 7 is all about, you can get the help file here:

http://www.amazingcloaker.com/AmazingCloaker_help.pdf

And of course, you can find the sales page with videos and demos of some of the features here:

Getting In Touch With Your Core Purpose

Play

YellowBrickRoadIf you’re running or starting a business online, do you find yourself winging it most of the time, drifting from one opportunity to another, putting in a lot of effort with no real return?

More often than not, this is due to a lack of vision as to where we want to go. Just as a vast majority of the population are completely out of touch with their core desires (another subject in itself), many online marketers are equally out of touch with their core purpose.

Why do you want to have an online business?

If you answered something like “because I want to be filthy rich”, or “to make lots of money”, or even “so I can pay my bills”, you probably need to check your core purpose to having an online business.

Let’s say that your answer was to be filthy rich. Now let’s drill down further. Why do you want to be rich? To get revenge on your former lover who said you’d always be a loser? Perhaps you hate your J.O.B., and you want out of the dead-end grind. Let’s go with that one.

So why do you want out of your J.O.B.? Most likely it’s because you don’t want someone else dictating your schedule, and having to depend on someone else for an income. Someone who may not always appreciate you, and who could ruin your life with just two words… “you’re fired”.

In this case, you want to do what you want, when you want, where the income potential is only limited by your imagination and efforts. You want the freedom to write your own ticket. Not having to worry about paying the bills. The freedom to take off to Maui on the spur of the moment, just for the fun of it. Ahhh, FREEDOM. Now we’re on to something.

In this case, it turns out that your core purpose is not to be filthy rich in itself. It’s FREEDOM that you’re ultimately after. In reality, the way that you are generating your income is the very tool by which you can accomplish your ultimate goal… FREEDOM.

Taking a few minutes to drill down your core purpose for being in business can save you a ton of effort in the future. If you’re looking for freedom, then your business needs to be centered around freedom principles.

This would include creating procedures for automating as many aspects of your business as possible. What you can’t automate, you can outsource. Perhaps there are certain aspects that you want to do yourself.

Personally, I enjoy programming, so I create my own software products myself. I could outsource it in a fraction of the time, but this is something that I enjoy, and prefer to play the major role in design and creation.

You may want to completely detach yourself from your business. In this case, you need automation and / or outsourcing procedures in place so that you can step away from your business, and it will run just fine without you. Suppose you were struck by lightning tomorrow? What would happen to your business? Would your family be able to carry on with the income it produces, or would it simply die along with you?

Those are serious things to consider right at the outset. If you get yourself trapped into working your butt off with 18 hour days and little proportional income, where is your freedom? You might just as well be slavin’ for the man; at least you’d be slavin’ less hours.

Take a few moments to drill down your core purpose for business using the technique above, and see where it takes you. Now form your vision based on that, and start building your business, or change course on your existing one, around your core purpose, and someday you’ll thank me for that. :)

A Happy Birthday in Beijing

I thought I would share some of the pics that we snapped while here in Beijing.

China is quite beautiful this time of year which forms the perfect backdrop for a perfect birthday. Kevin has just turned 3. Hard to believe. It just seems like yesterday when I saw him open his eyes for the first time. Happy Birthday Kevin!

Tingting’s relatives came by to help celebrate Kevin’s big number 3. Tingting’s younger aunt brought us some traditional hats with scarves from China’s Xinjiang provence which she picked up while visiting. Kevin, Tingting, and I are posing with them in a couple of the pics.

Some of the other pics are from different days. One set is from an amusement park that we took Kevin to, and others from the Beijing Olympic park area where the 2008 Summer Olympics were held.

We will all be back in the U.S. next week. Visiting China never gets old. It seems like that there’s something new to see everytime, making the 13 hour flight well worth it.

Traveling is a great way to build memories that you can carry with you into your old age. Having an automated internet business system makes it that much easier to create those experiences which enhance what’s really important in life. Have you started yours yet? If not, what’s keeping you? As my uncle Joe Nike always says… “just do it”.

You Dont Have to be Human to Make it Big in the Music Biz

Play

I thought this was pretty cool.

This is Miku Hatsune, one of the most popular Vocaloid characters out of Japan.

Hatsune Miku translates as ‘first sound from the future’, which is appropriate since she is the first of Crypton’s “Character Vocal Series”.  Miko’s voice is based on Yamaha’s Vocaloid technology.

Back around 2007, Crypton decided to use a different marketing strategy from ZeroG’s. Instead of focusing on high end studios, they changed their focus to the public in general, especially targeting teenagers.

In addition to an extremely appealing voice, they also needed to develop an image. Enter manga artist KEI. Kei had come up with Miko, and gave her the physical characteristics, but left it up to the public to collectively give her personality.

You could say that the collective energies of contributors and fans from all over the world have given Miko a soul of her own, somehow traversing the boundaries between the perpetual near future, and the present. The physical and the virtual.

Miko’s immense popularity has resulted in some pretty astounding sales figures as well. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

The initial sales of Hatsune Miku were so high that Crypton could not keep up with the demand. In the first 12 days of sale, nearly 3,000 sales reservations were made. This was around one sale in 250 in the music software industry, quoted as “an impossible number” by Wataru Sasaki—the person in charge of the planning and production company ‘surprise’.  Amazon.co.jp stated on September 12, 2007 that they had sales of Hatsune Miku totaling 57,500,001 yen, making her the number one selling software of that time.

The decision to combine Vocaloids with a manga character was an instant magic formula that brought Vocaloids from an obscure niche into a new genre of music. This strategy has opened the floodgates of collaborative content creation which has sparked a whole new dimension in artistic creativity.

Don’t Be a Tool

Play

ow-toolEver notice how the standard push button income is $10,000 per month? Surf out to any sales letter on any “make money online” website, and chances are that for a nominal fee you can make 10k per month with little or no effort.

Just buy their magic pill and you’re on easy street. Not bad for $39 bucks eh? So how come they never work? Why is it that so many internet business hopefuls end up with nothing but a hard drive full of broken digital pipe dreams?

Perhaps it’s because so many people go into this thinking that the internet is this magical universe where endless streams of wealth will pour into their lap if only they can just learn the trick.

That elusive trick that the “gurus” keep to themselves while teasing you with their systems packaged for public consumption, but somehow falling short of the real secrets which are only shared within their elite inner circle. The IM illuminati.

Look Familiar? inner-circle

Is there such a secret society? Or is it merely a myth perpetuated by the over active imaginations of others? One thing I can say about marketing on the internet is that you really don’t need to be looking for that elusive “trick” to be successful.

The internet is a medium in which you can market, just like either a physical storefront, or a flea market booth can also be a medium. There’s obviously many advantages to marketing online, but if you realize that the internet is just another tool that you can use to create an income, your perspective will be much clearer on the bigger picture.

So is 10k a month unrealistic for online marketing? Not at all. Is it unrealistic to expect 10k a month right away with little to no effort? Yes.

Many people give up after a short go around in internet business because they bought into the hype that making money online is easy as pie and completely effortless. They don’t realize that there is a learning curve involved just like anything else. It takes practice to get good at it, and it takes time to build a viable long term business with a loyal following of repeat customers.

If you’re just getting started in Internet business, and if God forbid, you are also in a desperate financial situation, don’t be a tool. Do what you have to in order to get through the crunch, and then come back when you can build a real business without the pressure of having to pay the rent in two days or face eviction.

Building a business for the long term takes dedication along with that four letter ‘w’ word. It’s not always that easy, but it’s also not that difficult. I’m willing to bet that you’ll find this journey to be one the most enjoyable and rewarding endeavors that you may ever experience during these hundred or so trips around the sun. :)

5 Ways to Pimp your Bottom Line

Play

bag-o-moneyIf you’re looking to make money online, or if you are already making money online, then you either need, or already have something to sell.

After all, anyone making money online is selling something in one way or another, whether it be a service, physical item, or a digital product, it all comes down to having something that someone else needs or wants, and providing it to them for a fair price.

If you don’t feel that you’re pulling in as much as you could be, then maybe you just need to be adding a few tricks to your bag. I find that many of us hear so much of the same ol’ same ol’ on the forums and around the net, that after awhile we just tend to ignore them hoping that there’s a new magic bullet out there you may stumble across that only you and a select few get privy to.

You know what I mean about same ol’ same ol’, right? Article marketing, building a list, and stuff like that… blechhh! How totally boring.

But you know what? There’s nothing fancy about a hammer either, but if you need to pound in a nail, it works every time. It never needs a re-boot, and it’s absolutely reliable, but how many of us actually get excited about using or possessing a hammer.

It’s not likely that you’ll be struting into a club somewhere shouting to your friends, “hey man check out my new hammer!”, and soon gathering a huge crowd of interested spectators as they check out your new hammer with the genuine rubber grip. If anything, they will likely dispurse rapidly out the door not quite knowing if you’re some kind of nut job getting ready to throw down and break bad with it.

Concentrating on the staples of your business is not overly interesting, and sometimes downright boring, but it happens to be the very fuel that keeps your buisness alive.

Have a product, generate leads, sell your product, generate more leads. That’s the simple basic formula. When you start straying into other areas, always ask yourself whether this is going to either create a new product or service for you, generate more leads, or more sales in some way. If not, then don’t waste your time.

Here are 5 essentials to a healthy online business:

  1. Build a list – Yeah, you’ve probably heard it a million times, but are you actually doing it? And beyond that, are you providing your people with value? The people on your list are the single most valuable asset you can have. Treat them good, and they will reward you over and over again, pretty much on demand.
  2. Do the article thing – Another subject that gets old after the um-teenth time… remember the hammer story? It really works, and once its on the internet, it can be there forever, sending traffic your way. Not only that, but there are so many ways that you can maximize your articles. One example is that you can put some of your articles in your blog, and then refer your list to them as a way to provide them with value.
  3. Test everything. If you enjoy leaving serious bank on the table, then by all means, don’t test. Testing what works and what doesn’t is vital to improving your sales over time. You may think that you came up with the greatest headline of all time in your sales page, but your visitors may beg to differ. You may think that you know what they want, but they may tell you otherwise if you give them the chance. Test, test, test… Testing is literally your keys to the kingdom.
  4. Look professional. I don’t care what the so called gurus say about shabby looking websites pulling in millions… Bull-stuff! If your site looks shlocky, why should I, the prospect, take you seriously? What does that say about your product or service? Take a little time to check your spelling, add some nice graphics, and straighten your margins to say the least. The extra effort will pay off again and again.
  5. Offer great customer service. As amazing as it sounds, some will disagree with me, but offering the best customer service possible will reward you greatly. Some see this as a loss leader, or time spent that offers nothing in return for you. I totally disagree with this philosophy. I see great customer service as a way of showing my prospects that they are important. A repeat customer and a raving fan is a priceless commodity. This aspect of your internet business is not a loss leader, it’s an investment!

Follow the 5 essentials, and you can’t help but to have a thriving internet business. :)

It’s Official – AmazingCloaker 6 is Here

AmazingCloaker6aWell it’s been a long time coming, but its finally here! AmazingCloaker 6 is a whole new animal. Recoded from the ground up, you can now run it on Windows, Mac OS-X, and Linux.

I initially planned to release it much earlier, but I started receiving great suggestions for improvement from my customers, especially from Steve Brown and Geoff Wiley.

They inspired me to take AmazingCloaker to a whole new level, and when you see the new features, I think that you’ll agree that it was well worth the wait.

So what else is new in AmazingCloaker 6?

For starters, AmazingCloaker 6 now has an Article Cloaker. If you’re an article marketer, you are more than likely aware that article directories such as ezinearticles.com won’t allow affiliate links, or links that point to your review page unless your review page is located on the top-level of your domain.

In other words, it has to be on your homepage. Well, this means that if you write articles for 30 different products, you will need 30 different websites if you want to refer readers from your articles… holy ouch batman!

Now with AmazingCloaker, you can cloak your website for the article directories! Simply create sub directories for your affiliate review pages, and then you can cloak your homepage to display those review pages as your homepage when the reader clicks on your specially formatted link contained within your article.

Here is a quick demo of how the article cloaker works:

I have cloaked declareyourday.com to work with article directories. Below are links for three different examples. Click on each link, and you will notice that each time your browser will show http://www.declareyourday.com in the address bar, but each link will display different content.

Example 1: Any standard link to my website, such as from a search engine displays my actual homepage: http://www.declareyourday.com

Example 2: Cloaked article link. This would be located within the body or resource box of your article:

blah, blah… you can find out more about blue widgets here: http://www.declareyourday.com?blue-widgets

The actual location is in a sub directory called blue-widgets on declareyourday.com

Example 3: Cloaked article link pointing to another sub directory on declareyourday.com:

…blah blah, find out more about Red Widgets by clicking here. (This cloaked url points to http://www.declareyourday.com?widgets&red )

The actual location is in a sub-directory two levels deep – /widgets/red on delcalareyourday.com

As you can see, the links are formatted as top-level domains. The ‘?’ and ‘&’ characters are typically used when calling variables in a server script, like when you want to track clicks or something, so they are perfectly legit to use in your articles.

Footer Slide-up Designer

The other awesome feature is the slide-up designer. AmazingCloaker now has a slideup designer that you can insert your capture code into from your autoresponder service or software (ie- AWeber, getresponse, etc).

The slide-up designer gives you 5 different themes to choose from (Signup for a free ebook, audio, video, to receive updates, and special offer). Each theme includes graphics which are auto-generated, or you can insert your own graphic.

You can also choose from thousands of combinations of background gradients & colors, and you can also time your offer to slide up (or fade in), and / or close after a specified time.

You can see a demo of the slide-up form here: http://www.amazingcloaker.com/1test.php

Improved Embedded Cookie Features

I have also improved the embedded cookie feature. You now have two options for the embedded cookie. The first is the auto-generated third-party cookie dropper, which is the same embedded cookie technique used in previous versions of AmazingCloaker.

The problem with third-party cookies is that newer web browsers have become rather unfriendly with affiliate links and third party cookies. Often times they don’t work anymore if the affiliate network uses first party cookies to set your info. Clickbank is a prime example.

Thus the reason form coming up with the second option, which is a forced redirect. When this option is enabled, the visitor will be automatically redirected out to the vendor’s website. If the visitor was expecting to read your review first, they will naturally click their back button. After they do this, they will land on your review page where they can continue reading your info.

Since they were redirected before, a first-tier cookie has been set on their machine which means that you are covered in case your link is bypassed, or they save their buying decision for later.

By default, the cookie is set to drop immediately, but now you can delay the amount of time before it is dropped by specifying any number of seconds in the timer box. You can set the timer for either type of cookie that you choose.

Format your links for tracking with Google Analytics

Now there is an option where you can have AmazingCloaker automatically format your cloaked link for Google Analytics! If you’re a GA user, this will be a nice time saver for having your links properly formatted for your tracking code.

Save your startup preferences

AmazingCloaker now allows you to save your startup preferences. Do you do all your cloaking on one website? You can save your website as a default so that you don’t need to type it in every time. You can also default AmazingCloaker to always select framed or un-framed cloaking, Google Analytics formatting, setting (or not setting) and embedded cookie, and more.

WordPress friendly…

It is now easier than ever to cloak your links, and AmazingCloaker has revised the cloaking process to be friendly with WordPress when using the embedded cookie.

The embedded cookie utilizes a JavaScript to do its magic. The thing is that WordPress isn’t overly friendly about embedding javascript. AmazingCloaker 6 has solved that problem by writing the embedded cookie code into a javascript file. This makes the embedded cookie more stealthier too.

This means that along with your cloaked link code, there is a call to a javascript file. WordPress has no problems with javascript calls, it just doesn’t like embedded code. Thus, your embedded cookie will work just fine on a WordPress site.

The Familiar Stuff…

And of course, the classic features are still there. There’s no need to relearn how to cloak your links, because the fields are laid out the same. You can still save your sessions. You now have an option to auto-save your sessions every time you cloak a link, or you can choose to manually save them only when and if you wish.

There’s an FTP uploader where you can store your website locations and easily upload your redirect pages, and test your link in the internal web browser (or you can choose to test it in your default browser).

I could go on, but why not see for yourself what it can do? You can check out the video on the AmazingCloaker website here:

http://www.amazingcloaker.com

Eat That Froggy

Play

EatTheFrogProbably one of the most common challenges that we face in our business, or everyday life in general, is getting things done.

I remember many times back in the day when my mornings would start out fresh, and full of energy, ready to tackle that to-do list that I put together.

I’d get about half way through the list, when I’d start to get that feeling like I was walking through a mud bog, each step getting more difficult as I descended deeper into the mire.

With my energy pretty much spent, my drive to get through the rest of the list would fade away, and I would end up wasting the rest of my time unmotivated.

Those unfinished tasks, of course got shoved into the next day, and the cycle continued until the list pretty much became a black hole, and escaping the event horizon was now a bigger priority than taking it on.

When I started getting serious about internet business back in 2005, I knew that I had to find a way to be more efficient with getting things accomplished.

The solution to getting all my tasks finished was really quite simple. I realized that if I simply ordered my list from the most difficult to the easiest, I could finish everything.

Why? Well, because our batteries are freshly charged in the morning. This is our peak energy period. Logically, if you tackle the toughest job first (that frog) while your energy level is at its peak, then the rest of the tasks become progressively easier as you go down the list.

This keeps your energy level proportional to the difficulty level of the tasks at hand which generally makes for a smooth day. Once you get that frog down your throat, burning through the rest of the list is a breeze.

This one simple trick has made all the difference in the world. After five years, this method has become a normal part of my lifestyle, and it has pretty much became an unconscious habit. Something I don’t even think about anymore, because now it’s hard-wired in.

The other day, I was introduced to a video that dealt with this same subject, and it reminded me of how much of a difference this simple technique has made in my life, so I thought I would share it with you.

Here’s a link to that video:

http://www.eatthatfrogmovie.com/walkthetalk?sms_ss=email&at_xt=4cdd42818787a51c,0

If you want to break out of that cycle of running out of gas before you get to the finish line, then give this a try, and see if it doesn’t make a difference in your life.
